Police: Marietta teen may be tied to several burglaries

MARIETTA, Ga.,None — Marietta police said a 17-year-old may be linked to several burglaries across Cobb County after they discovered jewelry and a laptop in his backpack while he was allegedly trying to break into another home.

Investigators have confirmed Cory Cannon is a suspect in a burglary dating back from September of last year.

The teenager was discovered in the recent case last Friday, when officers received a 911 call from a man who lives at an apartment complex at 1295 Franklin Drive. He said someone was trying to kick down his door.

"As he looked into the peephole, he was able to get a description of the suspect as the suspect had actually stepped back to kick the door down," Officer David Baldwin told Channel 2's Manuel Bojorquez.

The victim hid in a back room and when police arrived, officers saw someone running from the apartment and chased him on foot.

Police said they found jewelry and a laptop in Cannon's backpack when they found him.

Officer Baldwin said an investigator determined the laptop was reported stolen from an apartment complex on Franklin Drive, next door to the one where the latest break-in happened.

Investigators are still trying to figure out where all the jewelry came from. Some of it has already been returned to its owners.

Residents who live in the complex where one break-in happened said they're concerned about the crime, but also saddened to hear the suspect's age.

"It breaks my heart. I wish that they had more jobs, or people could get more involved with young people to help them," neighbor Valerie McGee said.
