FOREST PARK, Ga.,None — A fire at the Clorox plant in Clayton County sent a massive smoke cloud over I-75 Thursday morning.
Maj. Chris Matson of the Forest Park Police Department said a contract vehicle caught fire at the loading dock at the plant, located on Lake Mirror Road in Forest Park, just before 9 a.m.
Officials said the flames quickly spread to a chemical called pine oil. Pine oil is the primary ingredient in Pine-Sol. The fire chief said there should be no health issues related to the burned pine oil.
The fire was out after two hours, police said.
The fire sent a huge smoke cloud over I-75, between Old Dixie Highway and I-285. Officers asked drivers to avoid the area if possible and to drive with caution.
Several lanes of I-75 and I-285 were shut down for about 30 minutes, but have since been reopened.
Channel 2 Action News reporter Mike Petchenik was at the scene just after 9 a.m. and said the smoke could be seen from a mile away.
No one was transported to the hospital. Three people were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
