What’s the safest place to hide during a tornado?

The best places to consider going first would be a cellar, designated storm shelter, safe room or a basement.

If none of those options are available to you, get to the lowest level of your home. Find a windowless interior room such as a bathroom, closet, inner hallway or laundry room.

Stay as far away from windows as possible and remain in the center of the room because corners tend to attract debris.

In a high-rise, go to a small interior room or hallway on the lowest floor.

If you can, get under a sturdy piece of furniture such as a heavy table or desk and hold onto it.

Remember to protect your head and neck with a blanket if possible and if bicycle helmets can safely be retrieved, put them on as well.

If shelter is not available, lie flat in a ditch or other low-lying area. Do not get under an overpass or bridge
