Motorcycle Officer Hit During Funeral

ATLANTA — A retired Cobb County police officer was hit and injured by a car on I-285 north near Redwine Road, East Point Police confirmed.

Investigators told Channel 2 Action News reporter Tom Jones that the officer, a retired Atlanta police officer, was working a funeral procession when a truck came alongside the officer on a motorcycle and struck him as he entered onto I-285.

The officer was conscious and alert when he was taken to the hospital, investigators said.

The driver who slammed into the officer was spotted by Jones, pacing around the truck, appearing confused about what happened and concerned about the injured officer at the same time.

The Georgia Department of Transportation had closed I-285 north at Camp Creek Parkway to investigate but it has since reopened.

The Georgia State Patrol is heading the investigation and will determine if the truck driver will face charges.
