Mayors question TSPLOST tax for north Fulton County

ROSWELL, Ga.,None — The $6 billion dollar plan to improve mass transit in metro Atlanta has the support of some of government leaders in north Fulton County.

If the "TSPLOST" is approved by voters in a July referendum, north Fulton County will receive nearly $1 billion dollars for interchange and road widening projects.

Mayor Jere Wood of Roswell said he likes the projects on the list, but questions the approach.

"We're not asking for more money, we're simply saying in passing this regional transit tax, we should be creating a regional transit system, which we are not," Wood said.

Wood told Channel 2's Tom Regan that he and other mayors in north Fulton support the creation a regional transit agency that would consolidate county transit systems which would streamline and coordinate operations in addition to saving money.

"We would combine Cobb Transit and the other transit agencies and put them into a regional system with regional funding," Wood said.

A task force appointed by Gov. Nathan Deal is studying the idea of creating a regional transit agency.
