Man Sought In Attempted Rape Of Elderly Woman

HENRY COUNTY, Ga. — Henry County police are hoping someone will recognize a sketch of a man who attempted to rape an elderly woman.

Police said the man forced his way into an 85-year-old woman's home on Monday.

Officials said around 1:15 p.m., the victim reported that a black man had come to her home, knocked on the door and asked if she needed her lawn serviced. After declining his offer, the man asked her for a glass of water. The woman said she closed and locked her door while retrieving the water.

Upon returning to the front door with the water, the man produced a knife and forced his way into her home, police said.

Officials said the man then forced the woman on the couch, exposed himself and attempted to remove her clothes.

"He said 'I will kill you if you make a sound,'" said Ruth White, a relative of the victim.

White told Channel 2 Action News reporter Jeff Dore that the victim then fought off her attacker. Police said the man could not remove the victim's pants and fled the scene on foot.

The woman sustained a small cut on her hand and she was treated by paramedics at the scene.

The victim described the man as being in his early 20s with a dark complexion. She said he was clean shaven and between 5 foot 6 inches and 5 foot 8 inches with a stocky build. The woman said he appeared to be missing an upper front tooth.

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to contact Henry County Police at 770-957-9121, or calls can be made to Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-8477. Even anonymous callers who provide information to Crime Stoppers can receive up to a $2,000 reward.
