Man Indicted In Officer's Death

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Less than a month after the death of Chattahoochee Hills police Lt. Michael Vogt, a Fulton county grand jury has returned an indictment against the man authorities accuse of killing him.

Robert Millam Cook, 44, of Fairburn has been formally charged with murder, two counts of felony murder, aggravated assault on a peace officer, possession of a machine gun and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony in the six count indictment against him.

Vogt was gunned down on the morning of Feb. 15 on Vernon Grove Road in south Fulton county. The officer was en route to another call when he encountered the Cook on the dirt road and determined he was under the influence of alcohol, police said.

Vogt asked for Cook's driver's license but was instead met with a barrage of gun shots, investigators said. Vogt was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Cook was arrested a few days later following a tip.

Following Friday's indictment, the case will be assigned to a Fulton County Superior Court Judge and then scheduled for trial.
