Woman trying to get murder charges dropped in taxi driver's death

JONESBORO, Ga. — A woman facing murder charges in the death of a taxi driver wants the charges dropped.

Laronda Robinson said new information about what was in the victim's system should cause the D.A.'s Office to reconsider their case.

Robinson told Channel 2's Tom Jones by phone from the Clayton County Jail she did not cause the accident that killed taxi driver Karl Green in August last year.

"No, I did not murder him. I am not a murderer. I will never be a murderer," she said.

She now faces murder charges after a Clayton County grand jury added that charge to charges she already faced in connection with the deadly crash.

College Park police said Robinson got into an argument with Green at the Exxon on Old National Highway.

They said Robinson then caused Green to rear-end her and she followed him at excessive speeds to the point he crashed and died on Interstate 85 near Riverdale Road.

But Robinson's attorney said police have it all wrong and he doesn't understand why the charges were upgraded.

"The felony murder case is absurd," Reginald Greene said outside the Clayton County Courthouse after visiting his client at the jail.

He said Robinson was following Green and calling police at the same time because Green hit her car and was leaving the scene of an accident. And he said Green's medical report might explain why he left.

"Mr. Green was on cocaine and marijuana at the time of the accident. So he was essentially driving high and crashed his car," he said.

The District Attorney's Office said it couldn't discuss the case because it's pending.

Robinson feels like she's being framed.

"I want my charges to be dropped and I want to be compensated for every day that I sat in this jail," she said.

The D.A.'s Office did say it is moving forward with this case.

Greene has filed a motion to quash the indictment in light of the new evidence.

That hearing is next month.
