Just after 1 a.m. on Aug. 9, Atlanta police were called to the Hilton Garden Inn on 10th Street NW after receiving an anonymous tip about a man with an active Fulton County warrant staying at the hotel.
Authorities said the man, later identified as Jacob Taylor, 33, was supposed to have checked out of the hotel three days earlier but had refused to leave.
When officers arrived, hotel staff escorted them to Taylor’s room. Police said they conducted a “knock and talk,” and Taylor answered the door before being detained.
According to APD, Taylor initially tried to hide his identity by providing officers with a bogus driver’s license and a fake name. Officers were ultimately able to confirm his identity and verify the outstanding warrant before taking him into custody.
After hotel management authorized a search of the room, officers said they discovered a designer bag containing multiple suspected drugs, including crack cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, Adderall and Xanax. Investigators also recovered a loaded revolver.
Police said the following items were confiscated:
- 178 grams of suspected Adderall
- 14 grams of suspected Xanax
- 1 gram of suspected purple heroin
- 6 grams of suspected cocaine
- 4 grams of suspected crack cocaine
- 2 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine
- One handgun
In addition to the outstanding warrant, Taylor faces several new charges, including possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession with intent to distribute controlled substances, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, providing a false name to officers, forgery, criminal trespass and obstruction.
Taylor was booked into the Fulton County Jail.
