Vice President Biden makes fundraising stop in Atlanta

ATLANTA — Vice President Joe Biden visited Metro Atlanta Tuesday to attend a fundraiser and promote the president's legislative agenda.

Biden landed at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport then took a motorcade to the East Lake YMCA and Early Learning Academy where he met with children and parents and spoke about the importance of early childhood education.

The motorcade delayed Catherine Messer from picking up her three children, Lily, Ellie and Camille, from East Lake, but she didn't mind the wait.

She had no idea the vice president would be visiting until she saw him arrive.  She snapped several iPhone photos of him.

"It was sort of amazing," said Messer.  "At first, you think it's sort of cutting into my day, like, 'Do you know how busy I am?' but then it's just one of those things that doesn't happen every day."

"Oh, it's amazing," said Robert Drummond.  His daughter attends neighboring Drew Charter School, and he said parents there got notice the VP would be visiting.

"I've never really seen anyone from Capitol Hill up close," said Drummond. "He was very regal.  Well-protected, I should say.  It was a beautiful experience."

After leaving East Lake, Biden and his motorcade traveled to Buckhead to attend a fundraiser for Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Michelle Nunn, daughter of former Georgia Sen. Sam Nunn.

From there, Biden also visited a business in Cobb County and Mary Mac's Tea Room in Midtown where he pushed the president's agenda on minimum wage and health care.
