‘Unbearable’ gravel road remains unfixed: ‘MARTA Mobility got stuck, UPS got stuck’

ATLANTA — Neighbors are trying to get their gravel road paved. They say it’s falling apart.

People who live on Ewing Street near Campbellton Road say they hate the drive home, Channel 2’s Tyisha Fernandes reports.

Many say they’re afraid to get stuck. One neighbor compared it to driving on the edge of a cliff.

And what makes some even more upset, city workers put orange barriers up instead of fixing the problems.

“Whatever they did, it didn’t work,” said Taunya Priester, who she’s been dealing with the issues from the gravel on Ewing Street for at least two decades.

She said its unbearable now because her elderly mother’s transportation is affected.

Marta Mobility drivers are scared to drive on the Southwest Atlanta street.

“This is the area where MARTA Mobility got stuck, UPS got stuck, Amazon gets stuck,” Priester said.

Channel 2 Action News did a story about a year and a half ago showing city officials how bad it is.

Now the road erosion is even worse.

“On one occasion, the ambulance got stuck. This is just really ridiculous,” Priester said. “We pay taxes, and we should be able to have some infrastructure.”

City Council President Marci Collier Overstreet said it’s unacceptable.

She sent a statement that said in part:

“… We must do a better job of coordinating and utilizing City resources to address the current conditions of Ewing Street. … I have hosted numerous on-site meetings with key City department leadership while continuing to advocate for improved conditions and a long-term solution…”

“And then they’ll pave this main road, which is Butner. They’ve paved that several times but will not pave this road,” Priester said.

Overstreet said she’ll be asking the Atlanta Department of Transportation what’s the deal here and Watershed Management about the drainage.
