ATHENS, Ga. — A former tag office employee has been arrested following an investigation into alleged fraudulent activity at the office, according to police.

Athens-Clarke County police investigators said they obtained warrants for Lilia Lozano, 54, of Athens, after uncovering evidence connected to the case.

Lozano was arrested on Tuesday and faces multiple charges, including theft by taking, 10 counts of second-degree forgery, 10 counts of identity fraud and 10 counts of making false statements.

Police said the charges stem from an investigation into fraudulent activity that occurred at the Athens-Clarke County Tag Office. Authorities have not released additional details about the alleged scheme or the amount of money involved.

The investigation remains ongoing.
