Tyler Perry honored with exhibition at Macon’s Tubman Museum

MACON, Ga — Media mogul Tyler Perry was honored with a new exhibition at the Tubman African American Museum in Macon on Friday night.

Channel 2′s Audrey Washington was the only Atlanta reporter in attendance at the Macon-based museum, where she got a sneak peek at the exhibit.

The new exhibit highlights Perry’s story, from humble beginnings to billionaire media mogul.

Executive Director Harold Young created the project.

“Five years ago, I had the idea to do a Tyler Perry exhibit, and tonight it’s happening,” Young said.

The exhibit has portraits of tyler perry’s childhood, his arrival from New Orleans to Atlanta and the now iconic images from his Madea movies and tv series.

CEO of Tyler Perry Studios, Robert A. Boyd II said he hopes this exhibit on Perry inspires others to reach their dreams.

“I hope it inspires everyone who comes out that no matter how low or high you get you can accomplish whatever you put your mind to.”

Boyd said that due to schedule constraints, Perry was unable to attend the event on Friday but that he was truly moved by the honor.

“We just can’t wait to let him come and lay his eyes on it,” Boyd said.

The exhibition officially opened to the public on Saturday.

On Thursday, Channel 2 reported that Perry donated $750,000 to help local seniors keep their homes.

The money will go to low-income seniors living in the city of Atlanta.

It will be used to pay back property taxes.

The money will also freeze property taxes for 100 low-income seniors paying the difference between present-day property taxes and property tax increases.
