Fiery crash shuts down interstate in Coweta County

NEWNAN, Ga. — Emergency crews near Newnan responded to a wreck involving two tractor-trailers along Interstate 85 near Highway 34.

All lanes of I-85 north were blocked for two hours with traffic is being diverted at exit 41 onto Highway 27.

Channel 2's Jason Durden is over the scene in NewsChopper 2.

Durden tweeted a photo of the big rigs, showing the trailers completely gutted by the fire.

Photos sent in by Channel 2 Action News viewers shows a large plume of smoke billowing high into the air following the crash.

Fire investigators said one of the tractor-trailers was hauling metal products and the other was hauling plastic products.

They said three people were treated at the scene and were released with minor injuries.

Two lanes of I-85 were expected to be opened shortly.

There is still no word on what caused the wreck.
