GBI opens sex crimes investigation into Ahmaud Arbery suspect as 3 men plead not guilty

GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. — The three men charged with the murder of Ahmaud Arbery appeared in court Friday morning in Brunswick.

A judge arraigned Travis McMichael, Greg McMichael and William Bryan on murder charges for Arbery’s death. All three men pleaded not guilty.

A grand jury indicted the men last month on nine counts, including malice murder and felony murder.

Channel 2′s Tony Thomas also learned that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has opened an unrelated sex crime case against one of the defendants.

The GBI said that the investigation is based on allegations made against Bryan.

The defense is also expected to ask for the dismissal of special prosecutor Cobb County District Attorney Joyette Holmes, saying her appointment was illegal. They also asked for a gag order to limit communication with third parties in the case.

Channel 2 Action News spoke with Holmes one-on-one earlier this month.
