Teen never resurfaced after he fell over rail while fishing at Oconee River

BALDWIN COUNTY, Ga. — The Georgia Department of Natural Resources will resume its search Monday for a teen who drowned at the Oconee River.

The DNR responded to a drowning at the Oconee River in Baldwin County Sunday afternoon.

Witnesses saw a 16-year-old who was fishing fall over a railing near the Sinclair Dam.

The teen never resurfaced. His name has not been released.

DNR and Milledgeville Fire immediately began a search for the teen, but had to suspend their search at 9:30 p.m. Sunday night.

The search resumed at 8 a.m. Monday. The DNR says it will complete surface sweeps and use scan sonar when the dam stops generating.

The DNR will also fly over the area Monday morning.
