SPALDING COUNTY, Ga. — Have you ever had one of those great ideas that hits you in the middle of the night? The kind that wakes you from your sleep? That’s what happened to a woman in Griffin who was looking for a way to help in these Covid-19 times. Now you can see the idea that’s marking neighborhoods and supporting hospital workers.
Marjo Anliker showed Channel 2 Anchor Wendy Corona what she dreamed up -- red bows. Those were her middle of the night idea to show support to local hospital workers. With the help of her neighbor and friend, Denise Mitchell, the two began selling the bows for mailboxes in their Sun City neighborhood.
“I made a bow for my mailbox, for her mailbox. Put it on and then instantly people were saying, ‘What’s the red bows for?’ said Mitchell.

From that day on, $10 per bow began pouring in.
“The first phase of it was just our neighborhood and we had almost 100% participation,” said Anliker.
With more than 275 bows made and displayed, the money collected was spent at the Eagles Landing Chick-Fil-A. They purchased meals to donate to local hospital workers at Spalding Regional and Henry Piedmont.
Mitchell said the food deliveries are rewarding.
“You can see the appreciation on the faces of the doctors and the nurses when they came out to receive their meals,” Mitchell said.

The ladies do not expect their bow making to slow down anytime soon and they encourage others to join them.
“It doesn’t have to be red bows, but to just do something to raise some money for their local hospital because all these hospital workers are so appreciative and so overworked.”
The ladies hope to purchase meals for hospital workers at Fayette Piedmont next week. The women are accepting donations and taking orders for red bows. Simply send it to:
