Kerosene sold in metro Atlanta could cause home ‘explosion,’ officials warn

GRIFFIN, Ga. — State officials are issuing a warning to metro Atlanta that kerosene sold at one store could be fatal if used.

Georgia Department of Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black says kerosene sold at the Griffin Patriot Store on W. Taylor St. in Griffin could be contaminated with gasoline. The affected products would have been sold at the store on or after Nov. 2.

Black says that if you use the contaminated kerosene in heaters or lamps, it could cause an explosion or a fire inside your home.

Inspectors say they found the products on a routine examination of the store.

Officials have ordered a “stop-sale” on the kerosene pump at the store. They say it will remain closed until the tank and lines have been fully cleaned a new shipment of kerosene as been approved by the Department of Agriculture’s Fuel and Measures Division.

It is unclear how much of the contaminated kerosene was sold.

No injuries have been reported in connection with the kerosene sold at the store.
