Hapeville officer injured after car loses control, crashes into police cruiser

HAPEVILLE, Ga. — A Hapeville police officer is recovering after someone lost control of their car and hit his police cruiser.

Police said Officer Brandon Hickman had just pulled over a car along the side of Interstate 85 northbound at Sylvan Road when another car lost control, crossed over three lanes of traffic and hit Hickman’s police cruiser in the back.

The impact sent the police cruiser into the car that Hickman pulled over.

Police said Hickman was knocked unconscious from the impact but was alert and breathing on his own when he was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital to be checked out.

Investigators said two people in the car that Hickman had pulled over complained of injuries, but they did not appear to be serious.

The driver of the car that hit Hickman’s cruiser walked away from the crash without injury.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the crash. Hapeville police said that it was apparent that speed was a factor in the wreck.

Hickman has been with Hapeville police since 2014 and is currently assigned to their traffic unit.
