• Sinkhole opens up along Chastain Park in Buckhead

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. - A contractor is trying to figure out the best way to fix a large sinkhole along Chastain Park in Buckhead.

The hole opened up underneath the sidewalk on West Wieuca Road near Dudley Lane in north Fulton County.

Neighbors say the hole has been growing bigger and bigger as last week’s heavy rains washed away part of the road where contractors were installing fiber optic cable in the area.

When Channel 2 Action News first arrived on the scene, there was nothing blocking the sidewalk or the hole itself. A contractor arrived soon after and used caution tape to block off the area.

Contractors believe the hole could be about 35 feet deep. Monday, they used dirt to backfill part of the hole.

The contractors say they need more sand to fix the hole, but because of the rain it could be a couple of days before they get the hole filled in.
