ROME, Ga. — Police are investigating after shots were fired during a traffic stop in Rome on Friday.

Rome police said the incident happened near Etowah Terrace and South Broad Street.
Authorities have not released details about who fired the shots or whether anyone was injured. Officers and investigators remain at the scene as the investigation continues.
Police said there is a heavy law enforcement presence in the area of Etowah Terrace, Myrtle Street and South Broad Street.
South Broad Street has been closed until further notice.
Officials are asking drivers to avoid the area, use alternate routes and allow emergency personnel room to work.
According to Rome City Schools, Anna K. Davie Elementary was placed on a Code Yellow precautionary lockdown for a short time due to the incident in the vicinity.
School officials say all students and staff are safe.
The Code Yellow has been lifted, and the school is now in a Code Orange, which is an all-clear status.
The investigation remains ongoing.
