SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — Police are searching for the gunman that killed a man in a Sandy Springs apartment complex.
The shooting happened at the Azalea Park Apartment community on Cedar Run.
Police say 22-year-old Ricardo Hernandez Ovalle was the man found shot on Thursday afternoon.
Investigators released a sketch of the suspect Friday afternoon.
They described the man as Hispanic with a light complexion, short black hair, brown eyes, thin mustache, average height and build.
Police said the man was wearing a dark colored T-shirt, knee length shorts, and white tennis shoes.
Alondra Alcauter told Channel 2's Carl Willis that the shooting happened just feet from her apartment.
"I was in a hurry to grab my son. His crib is like right next to the window," Alcauter said.
She tells Willis she was lying down when she heard the first gunshot.
"Then I got up to check my son because he was sleeping and he jumped, and when I was grabbing him I still heard another two or three shots," Alcauter said.
Then she ran and hid in her laundry room.
Sandy Springs police say it was just after 4 p.m. when they arrived. Ovalle, an Alpharetta resident, was dead at the scene outside of building three on Cedar Run.
"We don't have any information that the victim had a weapon at this time. We do have information that there was at least one suspect who was firing at the victim," said Sgt. Forrest Bohannon with the Sandy Springs Police Department.
One witness told Willis that he saw the victim being chased.
Philliann Landry says her teenage boys heard the shots, but had no idea what was happening.
"I haven't had a real conversation with them just yet about what happened that someone actually lost their life right here where we live. It's scary," said Landry.
Detectives continue to search for a lead.
"They came and asked if I had seen anything," Araseli Martinez told Willis. "I hope they find whoever did this."
Sandy Springs police are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
