Police search for suspect after stolen cars found

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Police said they found stolen items in a DeKalb County neighborhood Wednesday morning, but they're still searching for a suspect.

DeKalb County police said they found three stolen cars in a back yard on Rosemont Drive. Officers targeted the home as part of a wider operation to track down parole violators. Channel 2's Ryan Young was with officers as they started around 6 a.m.

"We're looking at the high crime areas, and we're looking at the people who are wanted  --  the recidivists, the career criminals that are just going to keep on stealing, robbing people out here. We're going after them," DeKalb police Capt. A.T. Mears told Young.

Inside the Rosemont Drive home, police said, they also found law enforcement-style clothing that they believe the suspect used to disguise himself during other crimes.

The suspect took off in a green Jeep Cherokee, drove through a fence and jumped out, police said.

Officers said they followed suit, but the suspect remains at large. News Chopper 2 flew over a wooded area around Gresham Park where police used a K-9 unit in their search. By 5 p.m., the search was still ongoing.
