Man arrested in mother, daughter rape

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Investigators say they have made an arrest in the rape of a mother and daughter.

Clarkston police said the incident happened Monday at about 1 a.m. in the Southern Place Apartments on Montreal Road. The arrest was made later in the afternoon, but police aren't releasing the suspect's identity because he is suspected in another rape case.

Police said a man with a knife broke in and raped the mother and her 15-year-old daughter before fleeing with $700 he stole from the mother's purse.

"[He] forcibly entered the apartment; went upstairs and forced sex with the mother [while he was] armed with a weapon. After having sex with the mother, [he] went to the daughter, who is a juvenile," said Clarkston Police Det. Vernon Sands.

Sands said a young girl was also at the residence, but she wasn't harmed during the attack.

At some point during the incident, the 15-year-old jumped out of the window and ran to alert neighbors, who called 911.

Channel 2's Ryan Young spoke to neighbors, including Alvis Price, who said they were shocked to learn about a sexual assault in their complex.

"Very shocking and I'm just now hearing about it from you all," Price said. "I'm telling you, we have no crime over here."

Clarkston police said they have helpful information that led them to the suspect they have in custody.
