Police make arrest in 2013 cold-case murder

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Powder Springs arrested a man for allegedly killing his baby's mother in 2013.

Police say the morning of Jan. 14, 2013, Danielle Marshall, 23, was found murdered in her home.

Marshall's mother Gloria says her granddaughter was found crawling on the floor near her mother's body.

Police were called to the home of Mashall by the infant's father, Joshua Gibson, who said Marshall was not answering the door and he could hear the baby crying inside.

Powder Springs police arrested Gibson, 27, on charges of murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

It turns out Gibson was on the district attorney's radar since the shooting two and a half years ago.

District Attorey Vic Reynolds would only say that cold case investigators found new witnesses that pointed to Gibson as the killer.

He says the young victim's family is elated.

"The next step will be for us to present the case to the grand jury," District Attorney Vic Reynolds said.

Powder Springs Police Chief Robison says this was the city's only homicide in 2013.
