Police searching for 2 men possibly involved in rape of UGA student

Police are asking people to look out for two men who could be connected to the sexual assault of a 20-year-old University of Georgia student.

Police said the woman met two men in downtown Athens Saturday night and got in their car with them. Police said they left from a north campus parking garage and the victim was sexually assaulted some time during the ride.

Channel 2′s Lori Wilson was in Athens, where police said they are trying to find the two men. Police described them as two Latino men. One had dark hair and was wearing blue jeans, boots, a black jacket with a hood and a white shirt. The other suspect is described as having dark, curly hair and wearing a black button up Columbia shirt and khaki shorts.

Police told Wilson they don’t know if the men have any connection to the university, but are warning students to travel in groups or use ride-share or public transportation.

Wilson talked to shaken students about the attack.

"I mean, it's awful. It's scary to think that it's happening on campus," student Sonia Hundal said. She said she learned of the assault when campus officials sent an email.

Law student Daniel Zimmer got the same notification.

"They explained broadly what the situation is, who to look out for, and that's about it," Zimmer said. I guess people were kind of concerned about it, but then there was confusion about what exactly happened."

Zimmer said a lot of students say they park on the first level of the garage so they are not alone in the stairwells.

"I try to not stay out too late, but I am always on the phone with someone or walking with someone that I trust," Hundal said. "I wish that she had been walking with someone else, someone that she trusted."

Police said they have impounded a vehicle and they are pursuing two persons of interest in the case.

Police are asking anyone with information to call them.
