Winder police are helping a woman who says she was scammed out of hundreds of dollars by a man she met on an Internet dating site.
WINDER, Ga. — Channel 2 first reported on Sunday that Jewell Bergrunn signed up for a free Christian dating website. She says she fell in love with a man and sent him $500 to fix his generator.
She later found out he was on three different dating websites under three different names.
Bergrunn says she's on disability and lives on a fixed income. She said she wouldn't be able to buy groceries or get her medication for the rest of the month.
Winder police brought her canned food and are helping her with her medicine.
One officer recently started a new charity to help victims they meet out on the beat. Bergrunn is one of the first people they've helped.
