PAULDING COUNTY, Ga. — Some people in Powder Springs think they saw a mountain lion roaming their neighborhood.
The large cat was spotted Tuesday morning along Peppertree Drive.
“That thing was massive, what I saw,” neighbor Daniel Rivers said.
Several neighbors took cellphone video of the animal.
Zackary Blount saw the animal and didn’t know what is was.
“At first, I thought it was a dog, to be honest, but then I saw it look at us,” he said.
Sharon Spitzfaden saw the large animal, too.

“It’s bigger than my dog. My dog weighs 70 pounds. That thing looks bigger than my dog and comparing my cat to my dog, it’s the same size as my dog,” she said.
Wildlife biologists with the Department of Natural Resources said the animal in question is a large house cat. DNR officials said the closest population of mountain lions to Georgia is the Florida panther. Federal officials believe the Eastern cougar is extinct in the wild.
Neighbors who saw the animal aren’t so sure it was just a house cat. Rivers said anyone in the area with pets or children should keep them inside until they know it’s safe.
“I really can’t say what it was, but I know it wasn’t a dog or cat,” Blount said.
