GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Parkview High School officials are investigating disturbing video showing students being attacked inside a football locker room, including one student who appears to be choked.

The investigation comes just weeks after a senior football player was hospitalized following what his mother said was a physical assault in the same locker room.
Channel 2’s Eryn Rogers spoke exclusively with the mother, Alexia Huggins, who said she believes what happened to her son could have been prevented if someone had spoken up sooner.
“It was scary to watch. It was sad,” Huggins said after watching the newly obtained video. “There was choking, ripping of clothes, there was punching,” Huggins said.
Parkview Principal David Smith told families in a letter that school officials learned about the video late Tuesday night and launched an administrative investigation Wednesday morning. School resource officers are also involved.
Smith said several students shown in the video have received initial disciplinary consequences, with additional consequences possible as the investigation continues.
“Several students seen in the video have received initial disciplinary consequences and additional consequences may follow as we learn more. We have clear expectations for student behavior, and those standards apply to everyone,” Smith wrote.
Huggins said the video was especially difficult to watch because of what happened to her son, Ahmari, just days later since the video was timestamped on Sept. 2, and her son got hurt on Sept. 7.
Huggins said Ahmari spent several days in the hospital following an incident after football practice on Labor Day. A doctor’s note provided to Rogers said he had injuries from “physical assault.”
“He’s in a wheelchair currently,” Huggins said. “Can’t play football, basketball, anything he enjoys and wants to do his last year, he will not be able to.”
The school described what happened to Ahmari as horseplay, a characterization Huggins said she does not agree with.
“My son said he remembers being choked,” she said.
Huggins said she watched the newly obtained video and believes it shows the same student who hurt her son. She also showed Rogers an Instagram message in which she said the student apologized for hurting her son.
“My heart dropped because it shows it’s a pattern, you know, that it wasn’t just my child,” Huggins said.

In his letter to families, Smith said the newly discovered video is not directly connected to the earlier incident involving Ahmari. However, he said the behavior shown in the video has raised broader concerns.
Huggins said she believes someone could have prevented her son from being hurt if concerns about the locker room behavior had been addressed sooner.
“If someone would’ve spoken up, if someone would’ve done something, I feel like my son wouldn’t be in the situation he’s in now,” she said.
In an email sent to football parents, the coach said locker room behavior has been an issue. The email also said players will not be allowed in the locker room without a coach present from now on.
Huggins said she wants to see additional consequences.
“My son is out of the program,” she said. “They should be out of the program.”
Huggins previously filed a police report with the Gwinnett County Police Department regarding the incident involving her son. Rogers has requested that report but had not received it yet.
Huggins said she hopes someone will come forward with video showing what happened to her son.
In his letter, Smith thanked those who provided the newly discovered video and encouraged families to report concerns.
“We cannot address concerns we do not know about, and we appreciate those who had the courage to share what they knew,” Smith wrote.

<i>I want to update you on a concerning situation we are dealing with.</i>
<i>Late Tuesday night, we received a video showing inappropriate and unacceptable behavior in a locker room involving members of our football program. The behavior shown is concerning and does not reflect the standards we expect from our students.</i>
<i>We took immediate action Wednesday morning by launching an administrative investigation. Our School Resource Officers are also involved as we work to determine what occurred and who participated.</i>
<i>Although the investigations are still in their early stages, please know that we are taking this matter seriously. Several students seen in the video have received initial disciplinary consequences and additional consequences may follow as we learn more. We have clear expectations for student behavior, and those standards apply to everyone. Any student found to have participated in inappropriate conduct will be held accountable in accordance with our Student Conduct Behavior Code.</i>
