NORCROSS, Ga. — A well-known chain restaurant in Gwinnett County failed a health inspection this week with a 30.
DQ Grill & Chill restaurants are independently owned and operated. Customers were stunned to learn the DQ Grill & Chill in Norcross on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard scored so low on a May 19 inspection.
Customers who came to the restaurant Thursday had no idea the restaurant failed because the old score of 93 was still posted. That is a clear violation.
Channel 2's Carol Sbarge asked customers their reaction to the score.
Elizabeth Hernandez said she would be going somewhere else to eat. Another potential customer, John Newberry, said he doesn't eat anywhere that gets a score under 87.
Some of the violations noted on May 19 included mold-like buildup in the ice machine; milk with expired dates, including one from April; and uncovered food stored under a condensation leak.
The manager said they had no comment about the violations or why the DQ Grill & Chill dropped from a 93 in December to a 30 in May.
Sbarge contacted the corporate office but has not heard back.
One customer said she has seen a score as low as 79 in restaurants she has gone into but never a 30.
We'll let you know the updated score when the restaurant is reinspected, which should be in the next week.
UPDATE:
The restaurant scored a 93 on its inspection on May 27.
