Nick Gordon cause of death determined, report says

Authorities have determined the cause of death for Nick Gordon, the former fiancé of Bobbi Kristina Brown, according to media reports.

On New Year’s Day, the 30-year-old was found unresponsive in a hotel room in Maitland, Florida, which is a suburb of Orlando, according to a statement from the Maitland Police Department.

Gordon reportedly died of a heroin overdose, according to a toxicology and autopsy report obtained by TMZ. The report shows that he was found suffering cardiac arrest. He died seven hours after paramedics arrived to his hotel to attempt to revive him.

The former metro Atlantan died nearly five years after Bobbi Kristina Brown, who was found unresponsive, facedown in a water-filled tub at her Roswell home in January 2015.

Gordon became a part of the Houston-Brown family when his mother Michelle Gordon, a former friend of Whitney Houston, asked the pop icon to look after her troubled adolescent son, according to NJ.com. Houston began raising Gordon like a son alongside her then-8-year-old daughter. Houston never legally adopted him nor put him in her will.

Gordon and Brown would call each other “Li’l Sis” and “Big Bruh” in social media posts as teenagers. However, their relationship became romantic shortly after her mother passed away in 2012.

The couple got engaged in 2013.

In a Facebook post, Bobbi Kristina Brown addressed the controversy around their engagement.

“I’m tired of hearing people say, ‘Eww your [sic] engaged to your brother’ or if Whitney was still alive would we be together or would she approve of this?” the post read. “Mommy was the one who even said that she knew that we were going to start dating. My mom knows me better than any of you.”
