STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. — The CEO of a local child care franchise has asked the state to open an investigation after an employee was caught on camera spraying air freshener in the faces of two children.
David Vinson, CEO of Kids ‘R’ Kids International, also sent a team to train employees at the day care where the incident happened.
On the Channel 2 Action News Nightbeat at 11 p.m. Thursday, parent Monica Kendrick told Channel 2’s Tom Jones that she looked on an app that allows her to see inside her child's classroom at the day care in Stockbridge.
She says she saw an assistant teacher spraying her 17-month-old son and another child in the face with Glade air freshener.
“So she went from one child that was sitting on the floor to my son that was standing right behind them and sprayed it in their faces,” Kendrick said.
She says administrators watched the video and then said, “I can confirm that she did spray the children in the face and we told her that she couldn't do that anymore.”
Administrators say they gave the employee a stern talking, but Kendrick thought she should be removed from the classroom and fired.
The day care sent a note to parents saying no harm was done to any children and the situation was handled.
Vinson saw the video of the incident and was not happy.
“Terrible judgement. (It) should never have happened. And we're certainly doing everything we can on our end to see that it never happens again,” Vinson said.
The Stockbridge location is individually owned, and the owner hasn't returned Jones’ calls.
Vinson said after his investigation is complete, he will decide if the company will strip the Kids ‘R’ Kids name from the Stockbridge location.
“That's something that we cannot and absolutely will not tolerate. We are in this business for the children and they always come first,” Vinson said.
