Man suffers severe injury in Jackson County dog attack

JACKSON COUNTY, Ga. — A Jackson County mans says he thought he was going to die when he was attacked by a pack of dogs while out for a Monday afternoon walk.

Michael Wiley was in really bad shape when he was rushed to the emergency room at Athens Regional Medical Center.

"It started with that big dog first, then the rest of them. I guess they got the taste of blood," Wiley said. "That's when the other two just came up and started biting me all at the same time."

Wiley went through 2 1/2 hours of surgery and got rabies shots. He says that was kindergarten stuff compared to what the pack of dogs did to him.

"They were going straight for my neck. They were going straight for my neck the whole time," Wiley said.

Doctors at Athens Regional Medical Center said it was the worst dog bites they've ever seen. Wounds were "too graphic" for TV. The victim's sister couldn't believe it.

A sheriff's deputy took a couple of snapshots of the animals, three pit bulls and a mastiff. One dog was a stray and the other dogs belonged to two neighbors.

The deputy said the dogs even lunged at his patrol car and started chomping at the tires.

Jackson County Animal Control is now in charge of the investigation.
