DEKALB COUNTY, Ga,None — Some residents are scratching their heads after emergency crews found a man stuck in a storm drain Tuesday afternoon.
The incident happened at the M Luxury Apartments on East Rock Springs Road in DeKalb County just after noon.
Lauren Grosberg said she heard a voice calling, “Anybody. Somebody. Please help me" from the apartments next door.
She said she kept looking and listening but couldn't find who was pleading for help.
"And then, finally, he's like, ‘I'm down here underground.’ And I saw him waving through the grate," she said.
She saw a man stuck in the storm drain at the apartments and quickly called 911. DeKalb County firefighters arrived and it didn't take long for them to rescue the man.
"I think that they just took the lid off the grate and kind of gave him a hoist out of there," Grosberg said.
News Chopper 2 flew over the scene as he emerged from the drain covered in dirt.
Firefighters told Channel 2’s Tom Jones the man acted a little strange when they got him out. They said he told them he entered the drainage system from another location through a well.
Crews said he refused medical treatment and quickly left the scene.
Grosberg said the mystery man said he was running from someone.
"He just said that he needed help and that a man had chased him so he went down there," she said.
Some tenants wondered if he was running from the law.
"I thought it was a little bizarre," said Daniel Williams, the maintenance manager at the apartments said.
Grosberg said the man was a little disoriented but otherwise okay. She said she gave him some water before he walked away quietly.
"It was a weird situation. I'm just happy he was OK," she said.
