Man catches burglars in Lithonia apartment

LITHONIA, Ga. — A Lithonia man said he came face-to-face with four men who had broken into his home.

Dwayne Engle told Channel 2's Alina Machado that the door to his apartment on Embarcadero Drive was kicked in last week, but nothing was taken and he replaced the door.

On Monday, he was not so lucky. He said someone shattered his sliding-glass door Monday afternoon with a rock.

"My dog started barking. I got up, ran in here," Engle said.

Engle said he called police when he saw the shattered glass.

"I was outside. I was out front waiting on the police to get here and I heard some commotion in my apartment," Engle said.

Engle said he ran back to his apartment and found four men inside.

"One had the TV, one was trying to unplug it. One had my computer, trying to unplug my computer," Engle said. "When I yelled at them, they just dropped everything and left."

Engle said police were able to track down three of the men involved. He said he is thankful he was not hurt, but he is worried his apartment could be burglarized again.

"I have to have a save home for my family, so I'm going to go ahead and look for a place to live," Engle said.

Engle said the men did get away with his wallet. He hopes police can catch the fourth man involved.
