Local Marine reunited with family in patriotic homecoming

CUMMING, Ga. — It was a long time in the making, but one local military family is now together after nearly a year apart.

The reunion brought tears to the eyes of many who witnessed the heartwarming homecoming.

Marine Sgt. Jordan Martin was welcomed by more than 100 people at the Cumming United Methodist Church after being stationed overseas.

Martin finally got a big hug from his son Bennett after spending 10 months in Kuwait.

"This was very overwhelming. It was just amazing, thank you very much," Martin said.

Martin was stationed on the USS New Orleans.

"Once they're gone, the whole world is upside down. Now back together, it's an amazing feeling. We couldn't ask for anything more," said Martin's wife, Shannon Martin.

The church congregants had one more trick up their sleeve for Martin – his mother surprised him too.

“I just to get him home and have him safe and be so proud of him,” said Shree Martin.

The Martin family will have to say goodbye again when he has to finish up his duties in California in August.
