Homeowner rescued after massive oak tree crashes through house in DeKalb County

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Emergency crews responded to a massive tree that fell on a house in DeKalb County early Friday morning.

Channel 2′s Steve Gehlbach was live at the home on Biltmore Drive northeast on Channel 2 Action News This Morning.

The homeowner is OK after being rescued from the home by firefighters.

Gehlbach said the large white oak tree sitting in the front yard, crashed through the middle of the single-story home.

The home appears to be severely damaged and nearly destroyed.

The homeowner was in his bedroom when it happened. Firefighters said they had to rescue the homeowner out of the window.

Gehlbach said the tree is believed to be 250 years old.

The homeowner said the tree falling was a complete surprise and told Channel 2 there were no signs of the tree dying or having any problems.

“It’s so sad to see such an old tree go down, but I’m so glad the gentleman is safe that’s the most important thing…but so sad, and his house, terrible damage,” one neighbor told Channel 2.
