High-speed chase in Gwinnett County ends in crash, arrest

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A man is in the Gwinnett County jail after leading police on a high-speed chase Thursday afternoon.

Deputies say 41-year-old James Staples took off when they tried to arrest him at a hotel.

A witness says he saw the chase end with a crash near Oakland Road in Lawrenceville.

"We heard him coming up the road and he was just hauling butt and all the sudden 'boom,' he crashed," said Justin Jones.

A deputy used a maneuver to push Staples' car into some trees.

Authorities say Staples ran, but they quickly caught him.

Staples is being held in the Gwinnett County Jail.
