Henry County sushi restaurant scores 28 on inspection

HENRY COUNTY, Ga. — Diners come to Stockbridge’s Huge Hibachi Sushi Buffet for the all-you-can-eat buffet. But some customers were stunned when they learned the restaurant not only failed a health inspection on Oct. 15., it got the lowest score Channel 2's Carol Sbarge has seen any metro Atlanta restaurant yet.

“If I knew the score was a 28, I would have kept on going. It should have been posted when you come in the door so you can see what's going on,” said customer Fred Butler.

The restaurant’s 19 violations include the following:

  • Observed food handler talk on personal phone on cook line, and then go back to cooking without washing hands.
  • Skinned frog legs were found inside walk-in freezer
  • Raw meats were stored amongst washed produce and cooked products in the walk-in cooler
  • Not all potentially hazardous foods were reheated to 165 degrees for hot holding.

No one with the restaurant would talk with Sbarge about the violations. They just opened under the current ownership a month ago.

At the first inspection in September, Huge Hibachi Sushi got an 83.

Even with the 28, she found one customer who says he has no complaints.

“It’s way better than 28. I give it a good 100. (It) was very clean; good service, good food,” said Julian Carnes.

Channel 2 Action News will report the restaurant’s new score once it’s reinspected.
