Atlanta’s high officially reached 96 degrees Sunday, while the heat index climbed to 104.
With temperatures like that, doctors say dehydration can happen quickly — and there’s one simple warning sign you can check yourself.
Look in the toilet.
The color of your urine can be a quick indicator of your hydration level. Dr. Sujatha Reddy says you shouldn’t wait until you feel thirsty to start drinking water, especially when temperatures climb.
“Hydration, hydration, hydration,” Reddy said.
Ideally, urine should be a pale yellow color according to Reddy. If it’s darker, that could be a sign you need more fluids.
Reddy says people should drink water throughout the day, rather than relying on thirst as a signal to hydrate.
With the heat and humidity, staying ahead of dehydration can help you avoid more serious heat-related problems.
