GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — UPDATE: The restaurant received a 96 upon reinspection.
------------------
A Gwinnett County restaurant has failed a third inspection in just over a year.
This time an inspector even found fruit flies in a liquor bottle at the Greek Island Grille on Lawrenceville Suwanee Road.
The new manager told Channel 2's Carol Sbarge he is at the Suwanee restaurant every day.
Danish Salim is the third manager at Greek Island Grille since it opened about 14 months ago. Since opening, the restaurant failed a health inspection in August 2014 with a score of 50. In May, it received a 60. Upon re-inspection that month, Greek Island Grille got a 99 but failed a third time Oct. 26, with a 65.
Salim says with the two previous managers there were some food safety concerns. He says since taking over this summer he has taken care of that.
Some of the most recent violations include raw fruits not thoroughly washed, beer keg cooler leaking water and several fruit flies in a bottle of Italian liquor.
Salim told Sbarge they threw that bottle away, checked every other bottle and everything else was fine.
Salim says in this recent inspection there were no violations pertaining to food safety as far as temperatures or how foods are stored. He says food safety has been a priority since he took over.
He adds that he has fixed all the violations. He says he has retrained workers including making sure they remove labels from fruit when it is being washed.
Salim says he goes over the standards every day with workers and there are no problems with the food being served. He is thanking customers for their support and is apologizing.
