COLLEGE PARK, Ga. — Google Fiber announced Wednesday they are already training workers to install an underground network that will wire-in Internet and TV service across metro Atlanta.
Google is calling it Fiber Academy.
The company says thousands of contractors will come to its College Park facility, on Atlanta South Parkway, and learn how to install the actual fiber optics into metro homes and businesses.

Channel 2's Rikki Klaus took a tour of Google's 24,000-square-foot facility.
Google says its eight-day program teaches contractors customer service and equipment installations tailored for each home and small business.
Google says the academy is a boon for the local economy since vendors nearby will provide all services.
"As well as having thousands of these contractors coming every year to be trained here, [they] will be staying in local hotels, eat in local restaurants, participate in local activities. So all of that I expect to have a great economic impact on the community," said Google Fiber spokesman Pavlos Politopoulos.

Google Fiber says you cannot sign up to attend the academy and become an installer.
Google says it works with contractors from across the country but didn't disclose which ones.
Google Fiber plans to provide service in nine different cities in metro Atlanta: Atlanta, Brookhaven, Avondale Estates, College Park, Decatur, East Point, Hapeville, Sandy Springs and Smyrna.
