According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the victim reported in May that he had received multiple calls from people claiming to be with the Monroe County and Lee County sheriff’s offices.
The callers falsely told the victim he had missed jury duty and would be arrested unless he paid a large fee.
The victim agreed to hand over $22,450 to a man posing as an undercover law enforcement officer in a grocery store parking lot.
Later that day, the victim received another call demanding $31,500.
That’s when the victim realized he may have been scammed and contacted the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators identified Savannah resident Thomas Kelly Pullen as a suspect.
Pullen was charged with grand theft, organized scheme to defraud and impersonating a law enforcement officer.
The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities said additional arrests and charges could follow.
