Georgia Gwinnett College confirms shooting on campus

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Georgia Gwinnett College officials said the college had been secured after a shooting occurred on the school's campus Thursday.
 
According to the school's Facebook page, campus police responded to the roof of the parking deck in reference to a person shot at 2 p.m. The individual was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center. The male victim's condition is currently unknown.
 
Campus security determined the shooting was an isolated incident with no threat to the campus as the weapon was recovered at the scene.
 
According the college's spokesperson Sally Ramsey, an alert was provided to the campus community but the school was not placed on lockdown.

"Campus security determined that it was an isolated incident, do we did not put the campus on lockdown. It was determined there was no threat," Ramsey said.

Officials have not released the identity of the victim. The Georgia Gwinnett College Campus Police Department is investigating the shooting, along with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

When Channel 2's Tony Thomas asked if the shooting was a suicide attempt, Ramsey said, "We do not have any confirmation at all. It is under investigation at this time."

Investigators said there are surveillance cameras on the parking deck.
