ATHENS, Ga. — Once a DGD, always a DGD.
Mark Richt’s tenure at the University of Georgia ended in 2015 after a 15-year career. But the amount of love and respect the Bulldogs program and fans have for Richt remains clear.
The UGA athletic department announced that Richt will be honored during halftime at the Nov. 6 game against Missouri. The game is scheduled for noon.

“Katharyn and I are excited about being honored on Nov. 6 in Sanford Stadium,” Richt said. “Athens and the University of Georgia have been very special to us and we are humbled to be a part of the great history and tradition of the football program. We also would like to thank the people of Georgia for the love and support we felt throughout our time in Athens.”

Richt finished his career at UGA in 2015, with 145 wins and 51 losses, making him the second-winningest coach in Georgia history.
Richt’s teams won SEC titles in 2002 and 2005 and won SEC East division titles in 2003, 2011 and 2012. Dozens of his players went into the NFL.

After his time in Athens, Richt became head coach at his alma mater Miami in 2016. He retired from coaching in 2018 and currently works as an analyst for the ACC Network and ESPN.
Richt has battled health issues over the past few years. He suffered a heart attack in Oct. 2019 and announced in July he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
“Truthfully I look at it as a momentary light affliction compared to the future glory in heaven. Thank you Jesus for promising us a future blessing of a glorified body that has no sin and no disease. In the meantime, I am going to enjoy the blessings I do have.”
