ATLANTA — A group of co-workers say a birthday party at a northwest Atlanta restaurant got out of hand during a complaint about food.
Some people from the group were dissatisfied about an order of fries they wanted to send back. A restaurant crew said they were going to take back the fries. But at some point, the service dispute escalated with people cursing at each other, and ended with police sorting out a fight outside of the Peachtree Street business.
Seven of the 20 people gathered Monday to talk about the incident that happened Friday at the Anatola Café & Hookah Lounge.
Some them said a restaurant worker, who they believe was a manager, told the group to leave during the heated exchange. At some point, other members said they were held at the restaurant against their will. It is unclear why group members were allegedly held.
"It felt like we were being discriminated against. I paid for the food that I didn't even get to eat," another patron with the group said.
The business owner defended the restaurant's decision to tell them to leave.
"The reason we told them to leave [is that] they starting cursing at my brother and my mother. I will deal with it when you get to the point where you start saying obscenity to my mother and brother," the owner said.
The owner, who was not identified, also denies allegations that the group was unwillfully held.
Some of the patrons told Young they plan to file a lawsuit against the restaurant.
