DAWSONVILLE, Ga. — After a helicopter crash killed the groom and severely injured the bride on their wedding night, the family is now suing the venue and the company that flew the chopper.
Dave Fiji and his wife Jesni Sam got married on May 29 at The Revere, a wedding venue in Dawsonville.
On their wedding night, the newlyweds departed from The Revere on a helicopter operated by Prestige Helicopters. It was part of a promotion from the wedding venue.

As Channel 2 Action News reported in May, it only took minutes from takeoff for the flight to end in tragedy.
Not only did the crash kill Fiji and the pilot and injure Sam, it left her stuck under the wreckage for six hours.

Sam’s attorney said she was stuck in the wreckage, severely injured and trapped next to the body of her husband until she could be rescued.
In the lawsuit, Sam and Fiji’s family say The Revere and Prestige Helicopters failed to properly check the weather and made a negligent decision to take off that night despite unsafe conditions.
According to a representative for the family, the lawsuit also claims that The Revere set the helicopter departure up for the newlyweds at an on-property helicopter pad. But they did not implement adequate safety standards and weather-cancellation procedures that could have prevented the flight into dangerous conditions.
“In a matter of minutes, Jesni went from celebrating the happiest day of her life to experiencing something almost impossible to comprehend,” Andrew Robb, Partner at Robb & Robb LLC, the law firm that filed the lawsuit, said in a statement. “Jesni’s lawsuit seeks answers and accountability for what happened to her and her husband, and she will fight to ensure that no newlywed couple ever suffers anything like this again.”
Channel 2 Action News reached out to both The Revere and Prestige Helicopters for response to the lawsuit.
