‘Not even sad no more’: Mom feels love from community after daughter killed in prom night crash

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. — A crowd gathered in Hunter Memorial Park on Tuesday night for a vigil in honor of the Chapel Hill High School senior killed in a car crash after prom.

Patience Price, 18, died early Sunday morning.

Her mother, Kimberly Jones, spoke to those who showed up in support.

“Mistakes happen,” Jones said. “Patience would not, she would not want me to hold a grudge. Matter of fact, Patience would tell me, Momma, forgive. Momma, love. I’m going to do exactly what she would want.”

The Georgia State Patrol said the teen was unbuckled in the front seat when her friend sped around a curve on Chapel Hill Road and crashed.

“When I tell you looking at all these people that came out to support her, the impact that she had, the love that she had, I’m not even sad no more,” Jones told Channel 2’s Courtney Francisco.

The driver emerged from the crowd to speak.

“I just wanted to send my condolences to everyone and my apologies, too,” she told the crowd.

The pastor there prayed over the teenager. Price’s mother hugged her.

Price’s father, Ronald Price, echoed the mother’s support.

“I know God don’t make mistakes. So, that fulfills my heart,” Ronald Price said.

Another friend who survived the crash is out of the hospital. She was also in the crowd.

The mother told everyone who attended that she hopes they all continue to show up.

“I would pray that every child who came out here tonight would continue to stay in touch with me,” Jones said. “I get to live, I get to continue to have PayPay live, through them.”

GSP Troopers are still investigating the crash.

Price is one of eight children.

Her friends told Francisco that she finished her high school credits early. She was preparing to graduate with her classmates this spring.
