DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. — A man will spend the rest of his life behind bars after being convicted of a triple shooting that left a father dead and two others severely injured.
In November 2024, police say Karlton Sirmons, 38, kicked in the door of a Douglas County home to get to his girlfriend who was staying with her cousin, Tavarus “T-Bone” Joiner.

Sirmons shot Joiner in the chest and then in the back, killing him. He also shot his girlfriend in the leg eight times and another woman in the leg once.
A 5-year-old boy who was in the room was pistol-whipped, prosecutors say.
Joiner’s family said in an online fundraiser he was trying to protect his family when his sons had to watch both of their parents be shot.

Investigators say that Flock cameras helped them capture Sirmons less than three hours after the triple shooting in Cobb County.
A jury found Sirmons guilty of two counts of felony murder, four counts of aggravated assault, three counts of aggravated battery, exploitation of a disabled adult, home invasion, burglary and three counts of cruelty to children.
He was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole plus another 136 years.
