Bond denied for 2 suspects charged in bartender’s killing, dismemberment

David Barber and Andrea Boyd face murder charges in connection with the death of Jamal Parker.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. — Two of the people accused in the killing and dismemberment of a Douglas County bartender will remain behind bars after a judge denied their requests for bond.

During a hearing Tuesday, David Barber and Andrea Boyd appeared in court seeking release while they await trial. Both face murder charges in connection with the death of Jamal Parker.

Prosecutors revealed new details about what they say led to Parker’s death back in May.

According to the state, Parker got into a fight with co-defendant Mario Barber inside a home on Langdale Chase. Prosecutors allege Mario Barber killed Parker during that confrontation.

The state says several defendants then helped dismember Parker’s body by removing his head and hands before disposing of parts of his remains in the Dog River Reservoir.

Mario Barber and co-defendant Brittany Baker also face murder charges and have pleaded not guilty.

Parker’s father attended Tuesday’s hearing and said hearing the allegations in court was difficult.

“Very, very difficult,” he said. “Just hearing what happened and the way it happened.”

The judge denied bond for David Barber and Boyd, citing the seriousness of the charges and concerns about their history of failing to appear in court.

Authorities say five suspects are currently being held without bond. Investigators are also seeking another suspect, bringing the total number of people charged in the case to six.
